Federation of Anglo-Swiss Clubs
If you‘re looking for new friends to have fun with in Switzerland, you’ve come to the right place. No matter what nationality you are, so long as you speak English, you’ll find a FASC club practically on your doorstep.
FASC has 18 clubs all over Switzerland, offering all kinds of activities – parties, tours, walks, lectures, card games, skittles, slide shows, film evenings, visits to museums, eating out – you name it. All the clubs are different: some go more for the cultural side, some are very international, and others focus more on informal or family activities.
And FASC has years of tradition behind it. Founded in 1932, it has a social weekend every year which is open to all members – the only year it was cancelled was in 1940, because of the war. This social weekend, usually held somewhere picturesque in central Switzerland, is always a huge success, giving a chance of meeting really interesting people from other parts in superb surroundings.
But FASC is not just about parties – it also has a serious side. During the war it did sterling work helping interned soldiers and raising funds, and, after the war, organising holidays for Pestalozzi children. It has enjoyed the patronage of H.M. Ambassador to Switzerland for many years, who is fully alive to the very useful function that FASC performs in getting English- speaking and Swiss people together at grass-roots level.
FASC also organises three lecture tours a year, negotiating special rates to get top-class speakers from the UK to talk about Scottish whisky for example, or the stately homes of England, or Dickens. Or Benny Hill.
